SHORT COURSE: ADVANCE MODELLING FOR ECONOMIC EVALUATIONS USING EXCEL

Date: 22, 23, 29, 30 March 2021

Post-event Report Written by Juthamas Prawjaeng

This course provided the participants with an insightful overview of conducting economic evaluation, covering from basic economic evaluation-related statistics, model construction, sensitivity analysis, results presentation, model validation to guidance for economic evaluation  publication. It was conducted through a series of pre-recorded video lectures, online quizzes, and live sessions focusing on hands-on exercises and Q&A.

Attended by 57 participants from India, Kenya, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Rwanda, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, the course was designed for intermediates who have some basic knowledge on economic evaluation and are keen to learn the whole process of conducting economic evaluation. I had been involved in conducting some process of economic evaluation in the past, but not all of them, for example, running one-way sensitivity analysis, probabilistic sensitivity analysis and constructing cost-effectiveness acceptability curves but not constructing the model on excel. Therefore, I find that this course has helped me to further develop/expand my economic evaluation skills.

Overall, I was very happy with this course for several reasons. First of all, the pre-recorded lectures and online quizzes are flexible to study anywhere, anytime. I could go back to study repeatedly as needed and it made my learning easy and efficient. Secondly, the live sessions allowed me to ask questions to the lecturers and the exercises that were provided gave me a better understanding of what lecturers are teaching and gave me a better idea on how to apply these concepts in the real world. Thirdly, the exercise instructions were very clear and therefore the participants could follow them to complete the exercises themselves. Last but not least, the lecturers and teaching assistants are keen on answering the participants’ questions.
